
On the afternoon of September 24, the China (Chongqing)-Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City) International Land-Sea Trade New Corridor Cooperation and Exchange Conference was held in Ho Chi Minh City. The exchange meeting was hosted by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government and organized by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government Port and Logistics Office. Zheng Xiangdong, Deputy Mayor of Chongqing Municipal People's Government, Wu Wenhuan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, and Xu Zhou, Acting Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, attended and delivered speeches.
The exchange meeting was themed "Building a new land-sea channel and creating new opportunities for cooperation". It focused on the fields of economy, trade, industry, science and technology, culture, etc., and took the construction of a new land-sea channel as a starting point to deepen the cooperation and exchanges in various fields between Chongqing and Vietnam. More than 200 representatives from the business community, business associations, financial law firms, and media from Chongqing, China, Vietnam, and along the channel attended the exchange meeting.
"With the deepening of economic and trade cooperation between Chongqing and Vietnam, Vietnam has become Chongqing's largest trading partner in ASEAN for three consecutive years, accounting for 40% of Chongqing's trade with ASEAN." Zheng Xiangdong, deputy mayor of Chongqing Municipal People's Government, delivered a speech. He proposed to improve the level of connectivity of the New Land-Sea Corridor, accelerate the "hard connection" of railway and port infrastructure, promote the coordinated development of the international industrial chain and supply chain; strengthen economic and trade industry cooperation, build a commodity procurement and trading platform and distribution center for Vietnam, and jointly build a safe and stable industrial chain and supply chain; expand the scope of cooperation, further strengthen the exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing and Vietnam in the fields of commercial law, agriculture and rural areas, culture and tourism, and contribute to the construction of a strategically significant China-Vietnam community of shared future.
Vu Wenhuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, said that China and Vietnam have always maintained a stable economic, trade and investment relationship. The potential and market space for economic development cooperation between the two countries are still very large. The new international land-sea trade corridor is not only a strategic trade project, but also an important bridge connecting the two places. It also creates opportunities for experience sharing, innovation and application of modern technology in the field of logistics and supply chain. He also said that he would create all favorable conditions for the stronger development of trade and logistics cooperation between the two places.
Liu Taiping, chairman of the company, made a special presentation. He pointed out that the New Land-Sea Corridor is a comprehensive channel connecting China's inland areas to the world, and an open channel for interconnection and economic and trade prosperity between countries. As of June 2024, the New Land-Sea Corridor has transported more than 96,000 TEUs between Chongqing and Vietnam, with a cargo value of more than 42 billion yuan. The company has co-built overseas warehouses in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Haiphong and other places in Vietnam. In the next step, the company will rely on the Chongqing Hub Port Industrial Park and the Chongqing Dry Port of the New Land-Sea Corridor to establish a Vietnamese commodity distribution and trading center, and rely on Vietnamese partners to establish overseas service agencies to create a regional procurement and trading center and distribution center for the Vietnamese market, radiating to ASEAN countries, and providing inexhaustible power for promoting high-quality development of the regional economy.
During the exchange meeting, Chongqing and relevant Vietnamese companies held a centralized signing ceremony and signed a total of 8 projects. The total contract value exceeded 4.5 billion yuan, involving commodity imports and exports, shipping logistics, green energy, legal cooperation, etc. On behalf of the company, Chairman Liu Taiping signed a fruit and vegetable trade agreement with Hualan Import and Export Co., Ltd. and a cooperation agreement with Haifeng International to create a boutique route from Chongqing via Qinzhou to Haiphong. On behalf of the New Land-Sea Corridor Legal Service Alliance, he signed a memorandum of cooperation with Vietnam JLPW VINH AN LEGAL Law Firm.
A special exhibition area for Luhai Premium Products was set up at the exchange meeting, displaying more than 40 Chongqing specialty products, time-honored products, and intangible cultural heritage handicrafts, including Chongqing hot pot base, Chongqing noodles, Tongnan lemons, Youyang tea oil, and Rongchang pottery. It also displayed specialty products such as Vietnamese organic rice, cassava starch, and cashews, which attracted leaders, business association representatives, and corporate representatives to stop and learn about it, aroused strong repercussions, and reached some preliminary cooperation opinions.
